Big Boy – The Golden Age of Railroading To say much about the legendary Big Boy of the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) would be like carrying coals to Newcastle. This gigantic and world-famous machine is more than just a locomotive. It stands for the golden age of the railway and is a symbol of the inventive and pioneering spirit of the United States of America, which celebrated its independence 250 years ago. Nothing is impossible in the land of opportunity, and the Big Boy is truly an example of the unshakeable self-confidence of the American people. However, the UP will not be presenting a golden Big Boy for the grand Independence Day celebrations. That honour is reserved for Märklin – with an exceptionally elegant Big Boy 4000 in H0 scale, coated in 24-carat fine gold. Strictly limited in number, this impressive model is a visual gem of immense value.

Model:
Firebox door, boiler top, tender body, driving wheel sets, running wheel sets, linkage parts and various attached parts made of metal and coated with 24-carat fine gold. With mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. Controlled high-performance drive. 2 axles powered, 6 axles driven via coupling rod. Traction tyres. Curve-friendly articulated running gear. Box-type wheels. Centre coupling axles are spring-loaded. Headlamp, tender and number plates illuminated with maintenance-free warm-white light-emitting diodes (LEDs). 2 smoke sets (7226) can be retrofitted; contacts are always ready for operation. Headlamp and number plate lighting operate conventionally, digitally switchable. Driver’s cab lighting is digitally switchable. Coupling hook on the front end can be inserted into the rail cleaner. Close coupling between locomotive and tender. Steam pipes swivelling and routed with the cylinders. Attached metal handrails. Many attached details. Locomotive driver and fireman figures for the cab are included.
The “Big Boy” is supplied in exclusive packaging with a certificate of authenticity. The locomotive and certificate of authenticity are individually numbered. A pair of white cotton gloves and a booklet about the model’s development are included. Additionally, a 24-carat fine gold-plated contact strip is included for replacement of the standard contact strip.

Operating instructions:
The locomotive can be used on curved track with a radius of 360 mm or greater; however, we recommend larger radii. Due to the overhang of the long boiler, signals, catenary masts, bridge railings, tunnel portals and similar structures must be positioned at a sufficient distance from the curve. Due to the locomotive’s heavy weight, the track must be securely fixed. The turntable and transfer table can only be operated in the through position. To mark the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America, this model will be released in 2026 as a one-off series and is strictly limited to 1,776 units worldwide.
